Simferopol is a political, administrative and cultural center of the Crimea. It is located in the central part of the Crimean peninsula. It is the capital city of the Crimean Autonomous Republic, Ukraine. It stands on the Salghir River and is a land and water transport hub and a commercial center in the heart of a truck-farming and fruit-growing region.

Simferopol is a Greek word and it means "a crossroad town". Actually, all the Crimean roads gather in Simferopol, so wherever you want to go in the Crimea, you will have to visit Simferopol first.

Simferopol occupies the site of an ancient Scythian capital city founded in the 3rd century BC by King Skilur as the fortress of Neapolis. Called Ak-Mechet under Tatar rule (15th-18th centuries), it was renamed Simferopol after its annexation to Russia in 1784. Till now the central part of the city consists of two parts, Tatar and European, and you will easily notice the differences between them if you take a short tour round the city.

The city was the capital of the Crimean Autonomous Republic of the USSR till 1991.

Population of the capital city of the Crimea is about 400,000 people. Simferopol has a pretty large public transportation system, a big railway station and an international airport. You can get to any point of the Crimea from Simferopol. There is a trolleybus route (the longest in the world, more than 90 km) which goes from the airport to Yalta. Tourism is really important for the city economics.

The city is nice and green. There are a lot of parks, hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and Internet cafès in it. And there are a lot of good-looking ladies too!
